“We have become much more efficient and more profitable”
Norwegian Marine Harvest, the world’s largest salmon cultivation company, has considerably streamlined its order process and productions planning by using a new customer portal built by Ateles. The salespeople can see in real time how much fish is available in all 18 countries in which Marine Harvest operates, which means that the delivery capacity and profitability have increased dramatically. An independent firm of consultants has given the portal the best mark.
“The solution is a resounding success,” says Arnt Mjøen, Head of IT at Marine Harvest.
Marine Harvest has previously had several different systems where no one could see the statusof whatwas available. By using the new common portal, it has become easy to order goods and Marine Harvest can give exact answers as to what can be delivered and when, worldwide.
“The new portal is a simpler and faster-functioning system that has led us to become much more efficient and more profitable because we can sell more fish than previously at better market prices. We have obtained a transparent process and see the order status and delivery capacity whether we’re in Oslo, Tokyo or Santiago,” says Arnt Mjøen.
Cooperation across national borders
Marine Harvest, with its head office in Oslo, is the world’s largestsalmon cultivation company and producer of cultivated salmon. The company has 7 500 employees who producer more than 400 000 tonnes salmon and sea trout. Norwegian Marine Harvest has cooperated with Swedish Ateles since 2006.
They are very pleased with the solution and with the cooperation even if the companies are not in the same country. “In Sweden, running development projects in Norway is like a different culture. The Swedish companies are on a higher level and are more focused on delivering quality against specification. The positive factor of the cooperation is first and foremost Ateles’ ability to see possibilities in our work processes - the fact that they get to grips with our problems and constantly come up with proposals for solutions. This has been a key factor. They are also flexible, dynamic and fast and always deliver the quality that we’ve agreed on,” says Arnt Mjøen.
The new portal means that the employees at Marine Harvest can gain information and status in real time on availability and production. All information is seen on the same monitor, which gives a clear picture of the situation. It gives the company greater opportunities to be able to distribute the sales in relation to the production. In order to simplify things for the user, the information is “role-based” in relation to which role and function someone has indicated in his profile.
“The solution is a resounding success. We have been through a period of major organisational changes, and we wouldn’t have come through the process as well without Ateles’ solution. It has helped us to gain a clear definition of how our internal work needs to function. The fact that we also had such a clear tool as that provided by Ateles made the merger process faster and simpler than it otherwise would have been.”
Highest mark
A firm of consultantsthat has examined Marine Harvest’s work processes has given the portal the highest mark and it has been successful from several points of view. It is of great significance that the merger of three companies with three different cultures has gone so well, says Arnt Mjøen.
